North Carolina public schools educator since 1996, serving as a school principal at every level from June 2000 through September 2013, and district level administrator since 2013. Retired Marine officer with over 15 years of active service in a 31 year active/reserve hybrid career, including three post 9/11 mobilizations.

As Assistant Superintendent my areas of responsibility include leadership support, operations oversight, facilities usage, state and local Board policy adherence, appeal hearings, and other duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent. Our school system’s 1100 employees and 14 schools serve 6000 students and their families.

McDowell County is a beautiful part of the world, located along the I-40 corridor west of Morganton and east of Asheville in the foothills of the Blue Ridge. There are some breathtaking views of Mount Mitchell (highest peak east of the Mississippi) and other ridge lines to the north and west. We also enjoy the natural beauty of Lake James and Lake Tahoma in McDowell, and Lake Lure to the south in Rutherford County.

  • Principal of Oak Hill School (K-8) from July to September 2013. The historic building was constructed in 1939 as part of the Works Progress Administration.

    Comprehensive high school with 900 students (grades 9-12) and 125 staff members, Caldwell County Public Schools, Lenoir, NC. Mobilized for active duty in July 2012.
  • Named a US News & World Report Bronze Medal high school for 2013 based on results of the 2010-2011 school year.
  • Met 15 of 15 Annual Measurable Objectives (AMOs – federal) for the 2011-2012 school year.
  • Named a US News & World Report Bronze Medal high school for 2014 based on results of the 2011-2012 school year.

Burke County Schools (2000-2001, 2004-2009)

  • Principal of Freedom High School from 2004 – 2009.
    Comprehensive high school with 2300 students (grades 9-12) and 200 staff members, Burke County Public Schools, Morganton, NC. Mobilized for active duty in January 2009.
  • Named a US News & World Report Bronze Medal high school for 2009 based on the results of the 2007-08 school year.
  • President, Burke County Principal & Assistant Principal Association for the 2007-2008 school year.
    Principal of Forest Hill Elementary from 2000 to 2001. We were Burke County’s only NC School of Excellence that year.

Watauga County Schools (1996-2000, 2001-2004)
